Mayo is located on the Silver Trail (Yukon Highway 11), 143 miles from Dawson City, on the bank of the Stewart River.

Mayo began as a river settlement known as Mayo Landing 1902–03, after gold was discovered in the area. River traffic increased with silver ore shipments from Keno Hill silver mines to Whitehorse. Today, Mayo is a service centre for mineral exploration in the area. Yukon Energy Corporation operates a hydroelectric project here. Mayo has most traveler facilities. Lodging and camping at Bedrock Motel and RV Park, phone (867) 996-2290. Gas, diesel, propane, grocery store and dining available. Free camping at McIntyre Park and Gordon Park in town. Tire repair and minor vehicle repair are available. Post office, liquor store and library; bank service available at grocery store.
Attractions:
  • Binet House Museum. Pick up a walking tour brochure of Mayo’s historic sites.
  • Viewing deck with interpretive signs overlooking the Stewart River.
  • Canoeists can put in at Mayo on the Stewart River for a paddle to Stewart Crossing or Dawson City.
  • The Mayo Midnight Marathon takes place in June.
