| New Hazelton, a small highway community, is one of 3 communities sharing the name Hazelton (the others are Hazelton and South Hazelton), known collectively as The Hazeltons. The name Hazelton comes from the numerous hazelnut bushes growing on the flats. The older community of Hazelton, situated at the confluence of the Skeena and Bulkley rivers, dates back to the 1800s, when it served as head of navigation on the Skeena and a wintering place for miners and prospectors from the Interior.
New Hazelton has all visitor services, including dining, lodging, camping, gas stations, a post office, bank and shopping mall. |
