| Begun as a small settlement on the Mackenzie Highway after WWII, High Level grew with the oil boom of the 1960s and completion of the railroad to Pine Point. Today, High Level serves as a transportation centre for the northwestern Peace River region and has the most northerly grain elevators in North America. Visitor facilities include lodging at Greenway Country Accommodations and at major chain motels; dining at fast-food outlets and restaurants; 24-hour gas station; grocery stores, laundromats and car washes. Aspen Ridge Campground is 2 km south of town. |
