Grande Cache was established in 1969 in conjunction with resource development by McIntyre Porcupine Coal Ltd. In 1980 a sawmill was constructed by British Columbia Forest Products Lt. Historically, the location was used as a staging and storage area for fur trappers prior to their departure to trap lines in what is now part of Willmore Wilderness Park. Visitor facilities include 4 motels, 3 hotels and several B & B's, restaurants, gas stations, car washes, banks and laundromats. Camping at Grande Cache Municipal Campground. Shopping facilities include several small shopping centres, a supermarket, a bakery, sporting goods store and 2 department stores. |
