Wasilla is the largest community in the Mat-Su Valley and one of the fastest growing areas in the state. It began as a railroad station around 1917 and has grown with the Parks Highway completion in the 1970s. It is the hometown of former Alaska governor Sarah Palin.

All visitor facilities available in Wasilla, including banks, post office, a wide variety of dining options, gas stations, lodgings, RV parks, major-chain retail stores, supermarkets, tire and RV repair, laundromats, an ice arena, sports complex and several area parks including a skateboard park. Shopping can be found at Gold Rush Jewelers, Knik Knack Mud Shack (email), Sylvia's Quilt Depot and Town Square Art Gallery.

Camping and fishing is available at Little Susitna River, Finger Lake SRS and dozens of other lakes and streams. Fish for king and silver salmon, rainbow trout, landlocked salmon, arctic grayling, lake trout and arctic char.
Visit Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race™ headquarters; stop by Knik Museum and Sled Dog Musher Hall of Famel; or tour Martin Buser's Happy Trails Kennel or Vern Halter's Dream a Dream dog kennels.
Learn about the history of this region at the Dorothy G. Page Museum and Old Wasilla Townsite in downtown Wasilla. An outdoor Farmers' Market is held at the Old Wasilla Townsite every Wednesday in summer.
Stop by the Museum of Alaska Transportation and Industry and tour their extensive collection of historic aircrafts, railroad equipment and old vehicles and farm machinery.
