Wasilla is the largest community in the Mat-Su Valley and one of the fastest growing areas in the state. It began as a railroad station around 1917 and has grown with the Parks Highway completion in the 1970s. It is the hometown of former Alaska governor Sarah Palin. All visitor facilities available in Wasilla, including banks, post office, a wide variety of dining options, gas stations, lodgings, RV parks, major-chain retail stores, supermarkets, tire and RV repair, laundromats, an ice arena, sports complex and several area parks including a skateboard park.
