Klawock is located on Prince of Wales Island, 23 miles from the ferry terminal at Clark Bay/Hollis and 6 miles from Craig.

Klawock originally was a Tlingit Indian summer fishing village; a trading post and salmon saltery were established here in 1868. The local economy is still dependent on fishing, along with timber cutting and sawmilling.
