Population: 1,027 Located along the Parks Highway at Healy Road, 11 miles north of Denali National Park. Visitor Information: Greater Healy/Denali Chamber of Commerce June 1–Labor Day. Phone (907) 683-4636. There is a gas station , auto parts store, dining and several lodging options. The Denali Outdoor Center provides outdoor adventures on land and river in addition to cabin rentals. Healy has Alaska’s only commercial coal mine. Emil Usibelli started mining coal at Healy in 1943, and Usibelli Coal Mines Inc. is still operating. Tours are available with advance reservations; phone (907) 683-2226. Tours are also available for the Healy Power Plant. |
