Glennallen is located on the Glenn Highway, 189 miles northeast of Anchorage and 141 miles southwest of Tok.

The name Glennallen is derived from the combined last names of Capt. Edwin F. Glenn and Lt. Henry T. Allen, both leaders in the early exploration of the Copper River region. Glennallen stretches along several miles of the Glenn Highway west from its junction with the Richardson Highway. The Bureau of Land Management, Alaska State Troopers and Dept. of Fish and Game have offices here. Glennallen is also home to the state’s only accredited resident 4-year Bible college. Native-owned Ahtna Corp. has its headquarters in Glennallen. Also headquartered here is KCAM radio, which broadcasts the popular “Caribou Clatters.”

Attractions:

Aspen Interpretive Trail is a 1-mile walk through 3 boreal forest ecosystems.
Copper Basin 300 Dog Sled Race, held the second Saturday in January, is a qualifier for the Iditarod, attracting a variety of participants, from top mushers to first time rookies.
Wrangell-St. Elias National Park Visitor Center is about 10 miles from Glennallen on the Richardson Highway and well worth a visit. Great views of Mount Drum from town on clear days.
Grayling fishing and good king and sockeye salmon fishing (June and July) in the Gulkana River at the Gulkana River bridge on the Richardson Highway.
