Population: 4 permanent; 3,000 to 6,000 depending on oil production. Deadhorse is located on Prudhoe Bay at the end of the Dalton Highway, 498 miles north of Fairbanks. |
| Visitor accommodations are available at Arctic Caribou Inn and Deadhorse Camp. (Prudhoe Bay Hotel and Arctic Oilfield Hotel accommodate mainly oil field workers.) Dining service is available at the hotel cafeterias. Brooks Range Supply building houses the Napa Store, Prudhoe Bay General Store and the post office. The "Colville Mini-Mall" carries industrial supplies and sundries. Alcohol, ammunition, weapons and many grocery items are not available in Deadhorse. There is no bank, but there is an ATM at the Prudhoe Bay Hotel. Credit cards and traveler’s checks are generally accepted, but Fish and Game licenses and postage must be paid for in cash. RV parking with electrical hookups at Arctic Oilfield Hotel and Arctic Caribou Inn. Overnight parking at Tesoro. Fuel: Regular unleaded gasoline and ultra-low sulfur diesel is available at NANA (Chevron) or the Deadhorse/Prudhoe Bay Tesoro Station. Tire and vehicle repairs are available. | |
