Population: 1,201 Craig is located on the western shore of Prince of Wales Island in Southeast Alaska, 3 miles from Klawock and 31 miles from Clark Bay ferry terminal via the Craig-Klawock-Hollis Highway. Prince of Wales Island is reached via the Inter-Island Ferry Authority's MV Prince of Wales or MV Stikine ferry between Ketchikan and Hollis/Clark Bay. Visitor Information: Named for founder Craig Millar, who established a saltery and cold storage facility here in the early 1900s, Craig was incorporated in 1922. Today, it is the largest city on the island and offers most services. Accommodations are available in Craig and at Fireweed Lodge and Log Cabin RV Park & Resort in nearby Klawock. There are about a half-dozen dining places, from pizzerias to restaurants; 2 banks; supermarket and liquor stores; car rentals from Wesley Rentals in Klawock (email); gas stations; and other services such as Island Realty. Craig has 2 modern boat harbors. Craig is the homeport of many commercial fishing and charter sportfishing boats. |
