Cooper Landing is located on the Kenai Peninsula along the Sterling Highway at the west end of Kenai Lake. It is 101 miles from Anchorage and 131 miles from Homer.

Cooper Landing was named for Joseph Cooper, a miner who discovered gold here in 1894. A school and post office opened in the 1920s to serve the miners and their families living in the area. Cooper Landing was connected to Kenai by road in 1948, and to Anchorage in 1951.

Cooper Landing stretches along several miles of the Sterling Highway. All visitor facilities are available in Cooper Landing, including accommodations, dining, camping and gas stations.
